HANDLING CLAY

"BELOVED MUD OF THE EARTH, BELOVED SAND OF THE EARTH"

Air, water, earth and fire : the four elements of Aristotelic memory in which we find the evidence of the phases that matter, the increatum, passes through so as to manifest itself in a new esthetic order. Each creative action is one of consciousness in which one tends towards the infinite, towards the exorcizing of the fear of death, and the defeat of that desperate certainty of limitation. In the accomplished work of Raphael Reizel we find all that strong will, the effort, the research and the playing . Action become concrete energy; hands that plunge and penetrate with tactile sensuality, trace, caress, engrave and hold the tender matter while searching feverishly for an intellectual, emotional and physical fusion with the soul of the unshaped that came out of the dark inner body of Earth.
